St Emilion
The oldest region of Bordeaux still retains its position as one of leading producers of fine wine. Despite the recent classification discrepancy, the region has a long history of premium quality. Merlot is the favoured grape in St. Emilion, which tends to produce a richer, rounder style of wine than the Medoc. This is a perfect region for those being introduced to Bordeaux.
In order to fully appreciate just how diverse one area of Bordeaux can be, we offer a number of producers of fine quality red wine in our regular list. As well as many, other Crus Classes wines on our 'Fine wine' list. Chateau La Fleur Carrere from the Montagne St. Emilion vineyards produces a smooth, elegant wine from the gentle 2002 vintage. Equally, the acclaimed Chateau Teyssier Grand Cru is a stalwart of our core range. A family owned winery, Englishman Jonathan Matthews has doubled its size since his first vintage in 1994. The care that goes into the production reflects his determination to succeed. Such action is a mark of quality.
