Bekaa Vally

Despite being just 15 miles north of Beirut, the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon has been making consistently outstanding wine, even during times of conflict. With altitudes of 1,000m above sea level, the region makes the most of its geographical position to create wines which have generated a cult following across the world. With a history of making wine in this valley for over 6,000 years, you can be confident that the expertise of the winemakers is deeply embedded in their culture.

Without doubt the most famous estate in the Bekaa Valley is Chateau Musar. Founded by Gaston Hochar in 1930, this winery produces wines which are worthy of their lofty reputation. Predominantly growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Carignan, Mourvedre, both Bordeaux and the Rhone are obviously key influences here. Such is the high regard of this winery that in 1979 on its first outing in the UK, Michael Broadbent himself named it the 'discovery of the fair'. With such support from the outset, there is no disputing the talent of this unique winery.
