Speyside single malt distillery Benromach is known for its power, and this Contrasts edition does not disappoint. It’s all about the balance of smoke and sherry. The barley was peated to 57ppm, and then filled into first-fill sherry hogsheads. One to try if you like a bold dram.

Tasting note:

Nose: Immediately rich, with gingery dark chocolate, demerara sugar and cinnamon buns wrapped up in a silken sweet smoke. 

Palate: The chocolate theme continues, with the addition of red berries, pecan nuts, nutmeg, and that warming bonfire smoke. 

Finish: More dark chocolate and a black pepper heat.
