Caol Ila Established 1846 Isle of Islay

This distillery is located on the coast near Port Askaig, the still room is without doubt one of the most unique as its stills overlook the Sound of Islay to take in the view of Jura. 

The distillery was established in 1846 by Hector Henderson, like many distilleries in Scotland it went through financial issues to remodelling, the current distillery was rebuild between 1972 and 1974. 

It has 6 stills that produce over 6.5 million litres of spirit per annum, the liquid is so good its a staple of well known and secret Blend mixes, the single malt range is mainly peated but they also produce some unpeated single malts at the distillery. 

The average age of Caol Ila most people see is 12 - 18 years, however look out for older vintages that keep a great taste spectrum, age does not take away the power of the whisky.

The younger vintages can be true powerhouse drams, like the older siblings these younger drams take some beating on taste and quality.
